Happy Thanksgiving!!!

November is definitely a month for being thankful! I have seen all your children make great progress AND have fun in the process. Thank you for all your support at home.

Reading: We have been "shooting" to make words and playing games to learn vowel teams (ue, oi, oy, au, aw, ou, ow). Some of these vowel teams have different sounds, but the students are processing the differences and making great choices as to which vowel team is correct. I'm so pleased with everyone's effort!

5th grade math: We have had a great time learning the order of operations through a rap (to remember the steps in order), a Kahoot It!, and a real-life application in fighting fires (see earlier post). Keep working on the math facts everyday!

5th grade ELA: This week, we finished Steal Away Home's culminating project, writing about which parenting style the students preferred between two different characters. Your children showed great perseverance in completing this task and I'll be sending the papers home after Thanksgiving break. Please encourage your child to complete the Book Review of this book to go into the fish bowl. Once the bowl is full, we will have a celebration! This needs to be turned in before the Thanksgiving break. We just started our new book today, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. The students are already excited about why a boy named Dwight wears a paper Yoda on his finger. Please make sure you child is reading 30 minutes each night and at least one night over the weekend for a total of 180 minutes for the week due Monday morning. The only homework over the Thanksgiving break will be to complete the reading log...keep up the super reading! DUE TOMORROW: Creative project on The Lightning Thief.

6th grade ELA: Now that we have finished Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul and written an opinion piece about why this is a book you will never finish, we have started our new novel, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The students are finding Tom to be quite an interesting character and we have had some good laughs. Please encourage your child to complete a Book Review on Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul to go into the fish bowl. Once the bowl is full, we will have celebration! Have a great Thanksgiving with family and friends!
