Week of 12/5-12/9

6th-

This week we are working on solving simple algebraic expressions. Ask them to tell you all about inverse operations and how we are using them in class. We won't have class on Friday due to the Olympics, but we are in great shape and ahead of schedule with our units for the year.

7th-

Last week we started our new unit on expressions. Ask them to sing you our PEMDAS song and show you the motions we use to remember the order of operations! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zanq7gmXY88

Flocabulary - Order of Operations - PEMDAShttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zanq7gmXY88 www.youtube.com See the full lyrics and lesson plan at http://flocabulary.com/pemdas This educational hip-hop song teaches the Order of Operations when evaluating expressions.

This week we are working on memorizing the different properties. We made a book in their notes to help them. By the end of the week we will be working on simplifying algebraic expressions using all of the properties and PEMDAS.

8th-

We are about halfway through our 6th unit called Ratios , Proportions, and Similar Figures. This week we are working on proportional and nonproportional relationships. Today we learned how to solve proportions using cross multiplying. Soon we will look into similar figures and scale drawings. We are even going to look at some actual scale drawings my husband draws for engineering to see how this skill transfers to real-life!
