We're off to a great week!

Reading:

During our reading group we are continuing to practice longer words that combine the open, closed and magic e syllable. During your time together as a family, see if you and your student can practice dividing words in your environment into syllables. If you notice your student struggling to decode a word while reading, encourage them to break it apart into syllables.

Math:

As a school we are kicking off an IXL challenge! The goal is to reach 20,000 problems solved as a school body! I can't wait to see how the 4th graders contribute to the challenge!!

During our time together in math, we are continuing with Unit 3 in Everyday Math. We will have an assessment towards the beginning of the week next week. The students are progressing nicely practicing the multiplication facts! I am very impressed with the demonstration of hard work I am able to observe! Let's continue to remind them that multiplication and division are closely related.

Language Arts:

We took a test this morning over "Mrs. Frisby and the Crow". I'm sure the students did an excellent job! I am stressing the importance of practicing the use of a complete sentence when answering the comprehension questions. Our next story is titled, "The Earth Dragon Awakes". This will teach us more about the infamous San Francisco earthquake.

Social Studies and Science:

We will wrap our unit on European Explorers this week with Vasco Nunez de Balboa and a fun review activity on Thursday. During science we are wrapping up the unit on the water cycle and will be ready to begin a unit on weather!!
