Reading Group 2

Parents,
Over the next several weeks we will begin skills that will cover 2 syllable words. (vccv)  I began a review last week of previous taught red words.   I will send a list home with your students to review and practice.  Just a reminder that Monday and Tuesday the 18th and 19th are spring conferences.  We will be meeting in your child's homeroom. I look forward to meeting with everyone and sharing good things about your children.

Parents,
Welcome back from winter break.  I hope everyone received some rest and relaxation!  We will continue to review this week the skill of "wild old words".
(ind, ing, olt, old, ost) The rule for this skill is: long vowel, followed by a final blend that the sound is glued together.  Your students should be reading and rereading nightly passages.  Have your child answer a few questions and discuss unfamiliar vocabulary. They all continue to make really great progress. Thank you to all parents who helped with the GP Gala.  It was amazing!  Great  job parents!!!  Conferences will be March 18th and 19th. I look forward to sharing all the great things they are doing in reading.

Parents,
We have had a busy few weeks in reading.  We are finishing up the "magic e" skill this week.  Your students have worked very hard in reading. After the break we will dive into the skill called "wild old words"! (ost, ind, old, ild, olt)  We have also begun looking at suffixes. (s/es) Please make sure that your student reads each night and that he/she discusses the passages for comprehension.  Just a reminder that our school gala will be on 2/23/18 from 6 to 10.  It is at Ivy Hall in Roswell.  I hope to see you all there.  Please have a restful and safe winter break!

Reading Group # 2

Parents,
Wishing all of you a very nice and relaxing 3 day weekend!  Next week we will continue to learn all the rules for magic "e".  We have had lessons on long a-e and e-e!  Next week we will move into I-e!   Please have the students read and discuss the passages each night and review their red words for the week. Thank you for your support!
Game idea:  have the students sort short a/e/I words from long a/e/I words.  You can do this with chalk, white boards and writing the words on small plastic cups and let them build towers!

Reading Class 2

Parents,
Thank you for your time last week during conferences!!  It was GREAT to see all of you and share what we are doing in Reading.  This week we begin the skill: tch. (final /ch/ sounds has a short vowel that proceeds it-spell it tch/catch)  We will review this skill when we return from Thanksgiving break.  Be sure to read nightly and practice your child's red words. I hope all families have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  Be sure to stay dry and be safe this week!

Reading Group 2

This week in reading we reviewed diagraphs (ch/th/wh/sh), blends and cvc words.  We also dove into the FLOSS rule. (1 syllable words, 1 short vowel that end in f,l, s or z-double the f,  l, s or z).  We continue to review old red words and build on new ones.  We are working on oral comprehension from our passages.
Be sure to read nightly.  Have a GREAT fall weekend!

We have had a great week in reading class!  We are finishing up our review of "cvc" words and short vowels.  Next week we will look at blends and adding "s" to the end of 1 syllable words.  Thank you for signing each reading passage.  This helps me to know that your student is reading to you nightly. Your kids work hard each day and continue to make progress.  Enjoy your weekend!
