Mrs. Barber's Bio

Karen Barber is a native Georgian growing up in Bainbridge, Ga. and has lived in the Atlanta area for 28 years.  Karen is a graduate of Florida State University with a Masters degree in Special Education. Karen taught in Cobb County for 23 years supervising and training students with Intellectual Disabilities in Community- Based instruction as well as assisting families in making the transition from public school to adult services.  She worked as the S.E.T.S. Teacher (Supported Employment Training Services) program which was a unique Community Based training program based on the campus of Kennesaw State University.  Karen retired 8 years ago after 27 years of teaching.   Karen is married to her high school sweetheart, Billy and they have  2 children---Elizabeth and Hayes.  She enjoys Florida State football, reading, photography, walking, and baking!

Mrs. Barber's 6th Grade Language Arts

HAPPY NEW YEAR 6th Grade Langauge Arts!  I cannot wait to see everyone tomorrow!  I am posting our agenda for the first week back!  
  1.  We will complete our  My Side of the Mountain EXPLAIN EVERYTHING slide project tomorrow (or as long as it may take)
  2. We will resume Reading Response Journals (RRJ) this week.  PLEASE NOTE THAT A READING LIST WILL BE SENT HOME MONDAY NIGHT!  Students will need to choose a book in preparation for Tuesday's lesson! We will spend the remainder of the week modeling/practicing correct written responses.

Friday, 9/14 update

Greetings!  Please let me know if you receive the notification for this blog!  I think it is up and running!  
We will be completing plural nouns, collective, nouns, and compound nouns before fall break!  We will have a review on Wednesday and a NOUN test on Thursday!  On Friday, we will complete a fun novel scavenger hunt to introduce MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN! Our novel study will begin the Monday after fall break!  
Our students are working incredibly hard, and our organization skills are paying off!  Have a wonderful weekend, and I am looking forward to interacting with each of them at the middle school event tonight!
