Science: Grade 2

Course Description

Posts

10-15-18

This week...
-Continue our experiment with growing radish seeds in light and dark conditions.
-Learn about Photosynthesis and why leaves change color in the fall.

10-8-18

This week...
-Complete celery in colored water observation (observe the xylem, which carries water and minerals up to the leaves.
-Investigate the conditions plants need to survive. Students will experiment with growing radish seeds in light and dark conditions. The experiment will be set up this week and continued next week.

9-17-18

This week, our young scientists will...
-Examine roots of a plant with magnifiers
-Complete "parts of a plant" activity
-Observe lima bean sprouts in their "sprout houses"
-Do leaf vein rubbings (purpose of veins in leaves) and chlorophyll rubbings.

9-10-18

Last week, the students enjoyed examining lima bean seeds (dry and after soaking). The class learned the parts of a seed.
Next week, we will do a seed sprouting activity.

9-4-18

Last week, students observed a tree and drew a picture to show what the tree looks like in the summer season.  We will observe the same tree through each season.  The class also learned about the plant life cycle.

This week, students will focus on learning about the parts of a seed.

8-27-18

Last week, the class learned the difference between living and nonliving things.
The students compared and categorized objects and made a model of a living and nonliving object out of playdough.

This week...
The children will begin observing a tree during each season and  learn about the life cycle of a plant.

8-19-18

I am delighted to be your child's science teacher. Last week, we discussed what it means to be a scientist and learned about the difference between Living and nonliving.
This week, we will continue with Living and Nonliving and then start our study of the plant life cycle.
