I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!

8-27-18

Students will continue learning the number system of Woodin Math to develop number sense and skills - with various activities each day. All students will receive new passwords for Freckle Math and begin doing brief assignments.

-Ongoing review of place value, value, expanded form, standard form, word form, and reading numbers correctly
-Addition basic facts, ongoing to promote fluency
-Regrouping in addition with 2 digit numbers
-Focus on rounding to the nearest ten, using the number line first (introduced last week)
Students will continue to have homework to reinforce what we are learning in class. If a student has difficulty with a homework problem, please have them circle it and let me know so that I can give extra help to promote understanding.

8-19-18

I am privileged to be your child's math teacher.  I have enjoyed getting to know the students and look forward to helping them reach their full potential in math.

Our class will include research-based instructional methods from Chris Woodin to develop number sense and fluency with math facts.  Last week, we began spending part of the class time with these activities, along with basic review in place value, standard form, expanded form, and addition/subtraction.

The class will include hands-on activities, centers, interactive notebook, and songs/chants.

Focus of study this week
-skip counting (review of 2, 5, 10):
-Addition basic facts
-Place value of a number (ones, ten, hundreds, thousands)
-Value of a number (ex. the value of 4 in 485 is 400)
-Expanded form (400 + 80 + 5)
-Regrouping in addition
-Rounding to the nearest 10

Students will have homework this week to reinforce what we are learning in class. Please let me know of any questions or difficulties.
