8-12-18

I am so privileged to be your child's reading teacher.  Each student is truly a blessing.  We will spend a few days reviewing before starting the vowel team,  ie  as in piece.  I will also assess the students to see which "red words" they need to learn.

Focus of Review:
  • schwa i
  • Spelling rule: e dropping (drop the e in before adding a vowel suffix) example: require + ing =requiring
  • Spelling rule: y changing (Vowel + y, keep the y; consonant + y, change the y to i unless suffix begins with i (ing, ish)                                              examples: spy + ed = spied; spy + ing = spying; enjoy + ed = enjoyed; enjoy + ment = enjoyment
Please remind your child to read their stories or sentences at least twice on their own and then at least once to you (parent or another adult). The stories include controlled vocabulary.  The goal is to build accuracy, speed, and expression.  Red words will be coming home soon!
