Morphology 3 (Period AM)

Course Description

Posts

Week of October 15-19

This week in morphology we are working on the roots/bases/prefixes micro (small, minute), plur (more), multi (many), poly (many), and mega (great, large).
The students have done a great job investigating and asking pertinent questions. We will have a Vocabulary.com assignment tomorrow and at least one article should be read on Freckle by Friday. The students also have a passage to practice for the end of the week. Please have your child read it to you orally to help improve fluency and ensure that they are pronouncing each word correctly.

I look forward to meeting with each of you during conferences on November 5th or 6th.

Have a great week!

Week of October 8-12

This week in morphology, we are working on responding to what we read. The students are showing great perseverance in writing the essay. We are also working on incorporating previous roots/bases into sentences and other review activities. Please continue to have your student review the root cards nightly. It is helpful to quiz her on the meaning of words listed on the backs of the cards. Have a great week!

Week of October 1-5

On Monday and Tuesday, the students completed review assignments independently for me to see what bases/prefixes/suffixes the students know and don't know. For the remainder of the week, we will be reviewing through games and activities. Please continue to have your student review the cards nightly. You have probably noticed that each card has at least 3 words on them. Ask your child to give you a word and it's meaning or put that word into a sentence. Any ways you can think of to enhance his/her level of understanding is most beneficial to him/her. They have already completed their article on Freckle (at school), but they can always complete more :)

Week of September 17-21

This week in morphology, we are learning about the bases "med" (middle), "hemi & semi" (half, partial), and "equ" (same, even, similar). Please have your child review the root cards for about 5-10 minutes each night and complete one article on Freckle by Friday. I will also be sending home passages throughout the week. Enjoy the Fall Break!

Week of September 10-14

This week in morphology, we are continuing with our roots from last week because we had so many words to discuss. Now we get to explore and learn more through the games and other activities.

Week of August 27-31

This week, we are learning about the Latin roots init (beginning, start), fin (limit, end) and term (limit, end). The students have found some interesting connections between these roots, especially "init" in relationship with "gen". Some interesting words we explored are infinitesimal, finesse, initiation, terminal, and exterminate, to name a few. The students will be creating presentations about one of the roots in class on Thursday and Friday. They will be presenting on Tuesday. The presentation will include words using the root or base, narration, and images or videos.

Week of August 20-24

This week we have been learning the roots oper, labor, and techn. As your child about the motions we have come up with for these roots...we have been laughing! Continue reviewing the roots nightly and reading daily.
