Morphology 3 (Period PM)

Course Description

Posts

Week of October 15-19

This week in morphology we are reviewing previously learned roots/prefixes. The students are completing tasks to give me information as to which areas are mastered and which areas need additional attention. At least one article should be read on Freckle by Friday. The students also have a passage to practice for the end of the week. Please have your child read it to you orally to help improve fluency and ensure that they are pronouncing each word correctly.

I look forward to meeting with each of you during conferences on November 5th or 6th.

Have a great week!

Week of October 8-12

This week in morphology, we are working on responding to what we read. The students are showing great perseverance in writing this 5 paragraph essay. We are also working on incorporating previous roots/bases into sentences and other review activities. Please continue to have your student review the root cards nightly. It is helpful to quiz him/her on the meaning of words listed on the backs of the cards. Have a great week!

Week of October 1-5

On Monday and Tuesday, the students completed review assignments independently for me to see what bases/prefixes/suffixes the students know and don't know. For the remainder of the week, we will be reviewing through games and activities. Please continue to have your student review the cards nightly. You have probably noticed that each card has at least 3 words on them. Ask your child to give you a word and it's meaning or put that word into a sentence. Any ways you can think of to enhance his/her level of understanding is most beneficial to him/her. They have already completed their article on Freckle (at school), but they can always complete more :)

Week of September 17-21

This week in morphology, we are studying the bases "card, cord" (heart), "flict" (strike), and "trib" (pay, give). Please have your child review the root cards for 5-10 minutes each night and read one article on Freckle by Friday. Enjoy the Fall Break!

Week of September 10-14

This week in morphology, we are continuing with our roots from last week because we had so many words to discuss. Now we get to explore and learn more through the games and other activities.

Week of August 27-31

This week we are concluding our review of previous roots/bases/prefixes learned in prior years. This review entails marking at least three words that are using that base or prefix that have a "meaty" meaning which will be useful to the students in other classes especially language arts. To help with this process, the students will need to complete about 5-10 cards each night this week so we can move on to new areas of study next week. We are also playing some games to help solidify the use of the words. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Week of August 20-24

This week we have been reviewing all the roots learned up to this point and my goodness, it is a lot! To aide in the process, the students have been selecting words for each root that can be used in other classes, especially languages arts. Those words are being written on the back of the root cards. We have also played quite a few review games to sharpen our skills. Please have your child review the root cards nightly for about 5-10 minutes and read for at least 30 minutes.
