Reading Group 1

Reading Group 1-In the next few weeks we will be covering rules for "silent letters and  suffixes.  (rh/wr/kn/gn) and (ous, ate, age)  Just a reminder that Monday and Tuesday the 18th and 19th are spring conferences.  I look forward to talking to you about your students. Check with your child's homeroom teacher for the location of the conference.

Parents,
Welcome back from winter break!  Hope you received some rest and relaxation.  The next couple of week we will look at the skill of ie/long e and then ie/long I.  Your student should be reading and rereading nightly passages for comprehension and fluency. Have your student discuss vocabulary and the rule for the passage.  Report cards will be going home this week.  Conferences will be March 18th and 19th.  Look for more information to come home.

Parents,
We have had a very busy few weeks with diving into suffixes and beginning Level 3 OG skills. As we finish this week, we are looking at the suffix skill (ive). After winter break we will move into the (al) suffix and then the OG skill of (ture).
Please make sure that your students read nightly and discuss the passages for comprehension. Don't forget the GP Gala on 2/23/18.  The time is from 6 to 10 at will be at Ivy Hall in Roswell.  I hope everyone has a very restful and safe winter break!

Reading Group #1

Parents,
Wishing you all a nice and relaxing 3 day weekend!  Next week we will begin looking at roots, prefixes and suffixes!  We begin with the rule for "ate"! (with the long a sound/verb/means to make or do)  These lessons will explore words they may already know and build on this knowledge and tackle harder words and learn how to build "word sums".  Please have your student continue to read and discuss daily passages and review their red words for the week.  Thank you for all your help and support!

Happy Friday!  We have been very busy these past weeks in reading.  We are moving into the skill: "y" changing rule.  We will continue this rule until Christmas break.  We have added weekly vocabulary word searches from our reading passages.  Remember to read nightly and review red words.  Enjoy your weekend.  Only 11 more days till Christmas!!!!

It's hard to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving Break!  This week we will look at the /tion/ rule.  This includes: tion, ssion, sion skill pattern.  We will review these skills the week we return from Thanksgiving break.  Thank you for your time during conferences.  It is always great to share what we are doing in Reading class.  Be sure to read nightly and practice red words.  Enjoy the rest of your week and stay dry!!!!!

Reading Updates;  This week we dove into the rule of  "1-1-1 doubling". (skip/skipping) Next week we will be covering the " e dropping rule(drive/driving)
In the next few weeks we will be working on our fluency and quick decoding skills through oral drills.  We continue to build on reading comprehension and details.  Be sure to read nightly!  Have a GREAT fall weekend!!!

Happy Fall Break!  Hope you enjoy your time with your family!  When we return from break we will dive into "r" controlled vowels.  We are discussing inferencing in reading comprehension.  We also are working on oral retelling of the reading passages.

Happy Labor Day!
This week in reading we will continue to review vowel teams.  We will concentrate this week on the "oe"  (toe) and "oy" (joy)  patterns. Last Friday we enjoyed a vocabulary game challenge of BUZZ word! Thank you for checking the blue reading folders each night.
