This week we concluded our Economics study with a short assessment and visit to the ChickFilA Backstage Tour. We had a great time!!
When we return on Tuesday we will begin a unit on the Cattle Trails. This is a fun unit. We will learn about how cattle were transported to the east after the Civil War. We'll learn about cooks, trail bosses, wranglers and cowboys. We can't wait!
Enjoy your long weekend!!
Welcome to 5th grade social studies!
We have launched right into our first unit which is the US Economy. We have defined "economy" and looked at the four sectors of our economy here in the U.S. We've also talked about needs vs. wants and how important it is to budget.
Your child is keeping an interactive notebook which is a great link between school and home. We use this in the classroom and they will bring it home to prepare for assessments. Tomorrow, we will look at the basics of a private business and how it operates. Then on Wednesday, we will have an assessment on this unit. Interactive notebooks will come home on Monday so that you can begin to prepare.
We are very excited that our culminating activity will be a visit to ChickfilA's Backstage Tour. This will include learning about the history, culture and values of the company and it's founder, as well as their business model. On the drive home we will stop and have lunch at a local ChickFilA!! We are very excited!
Our next unit will be on the Cattle Trails. This is a really fun unit as well.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Parent Night Tuesday at 6:30pm!
Hi Parents,
If you are receiving this blog post it is because I am one of your child's teachers this year! This post is not specific to the subject that I teach, I just wanted to tell you a little more about who your child will be spending part of this year with!
This is my third year teaching at GP and I love it! I have been married for 24 years and live in East Cobb. I have two children. My daughter is a senior at UGA and my son is a freshman at GCSU. I have now been an official empty nester for 2 days which is truly bittersweet.
My sister, Susan Spruill, works at GP too and I give her a lot of the credit for me being here. I have a dyslexic brother and a dyslexic nephew and am so happy that God brought me to a place where I can watch these incredible children bloom and grow! My heart is to equip my students with not only the ability to read, write and spell but also with confidence and a heart for God and others.
You have been subscribed to the blog that pertains to your child. Please read my posts. My aim is to keep you well informed on not only what we are currently working on, but also what is coming up. Another great place to find information is under the Parent Central tab on the GRACEPOINT website.
I am looking forward to a great year! Enjoy your weekend!!
