March Madness!
Greetings parents/guardians,
It has been a whirlwind of events over the last week. We are completing our unit on Classification and Taxonomy. We will begin genetics and heredity next week. The first assignment that students need to work on is their taxonomic key vocabulary book. Students who were absent on Thursday can view the assignment and rubric in google classroom.
Over the next couple of weeks, I will upload all assignments that need to be completed on Google Classroom. All students have joined my science classroom. They will be able to view videos, slide presentations and worksheets. I will not be including lab activities due to the variety of resources in individual homes. Lessons will be uploaded for students to begin next Tuesday.

February: We love our bodies!
Greetings,
Our Human Anatomy unit is concluding this week with Immunity. We took time to research some common diseases. We learned more about the causes, symptoms, effects and treatment. We also completed a mini unit on cancer.
Our next unit will focus on Animal Classification. We will observe the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as diagramming through the use of a taxonomic key.
Seventh grade truly has shown a dynamic outlook in regards to the human body and we enjoyed making connections between the amazing systems that make up our miraculous bodies!

New Year, New Unit: January 2020

I hope that you all had a break full of love, laughter and quality time with family. Thank you so much for the special gifts that were given before the break.
In seventh grade science, we are completing our unit on the human body. We will explore the digestive, excretory and immune systems as we conclude the unit. Currently , we are measuring the length of the digestive system and modeling how food travels through the digestive system using household materials.

Week of December 2-6, 2019: Circulation and Respiration
Greetings,
The month of November flew by and December is here. Over the next three weeks, 7th and 8th grade will be exploring how the respiratory and circulatory systems relate. All students have been signed into my Google Classroom as well. I will upload helpful videos and websites.
Also, students receive all tests and quizzes back for signatures. Please be sure to sign and return in order for me to add them to their student portfolios. This is also a homework grade. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

Weeks of October 21- November 1, 2019: Let's Move!
Greetings!!
Our first trimester is coming to a close. We have entered new territory, THE AMAZING HUMAN BODY!! Students will make a connection between the skeletal and muscular systems. We will be dissecting a chicken wing at the end of this week leading into next week. A parent permission slip will be coming home, please sign and return to me for a homework grade. We will end this trimester with our Circulatory System unit.

Week of October 14, 2019: Cells
PROJECT REMINDER: Students received the instructions for their cell model that is due on October 24, 2019. Students had the choice of making either an animal or plant cell using non perishable items. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.
This week we will continue to gain an understanding of how cell organelles function. Students have become familiar with the microscopes and will view both plant and animal cells to make comparisons.

September 30- October 11, 2019: Science Magnified
Greetings,
Students are exploring how to use a microscope and have viewed , plant and animal samples. Part 1 of the Microscope Labeling quiz was last week and Part 2 will be THIS WEEK on October 10, 2019.

We are moving into the basic function of a cell. By the end of this unit , students will identify parts of plant and animal cells and describe the function. This Friday, students will receive their rubric for our at home cell project !!

September 9-20, 2019: Two weeks of exploration
Greetings,
During these two weeks before Fall Break, we will conclude our unit on the Scientific Method. We will focus on testable questions, writing a hypothesis, different types of variables ( independent, dependent, and controlled). Students will build ramps to test the question:"If the slope of a ramp increases , how does it effect the distance that a marble travels?"
Microscope function and the structure of plant and animal cells will be our next units of study!

September 2-6 , 2019: Observations Everywhere!
Greetings,
This week our focus was on different types of observations: Quantitative and Qualitative Observations. Students were able to view a series of pictures and list both types of observations. We also compared and observation to an inference. We completed an activity titled " Mystery Footprints" in order to put our inference skills to the test.
Next week students will begin differentiated lessons based on their grade level.
IMPORTANT: Students have been studying for their first vocabulary quiz. They were given a week to study. In the future, an announcement will also be posted on my blog. If your child earned less than a 70%, they are able to complete extra credit to bring their grades up to a 70%.

August 26-30, 2019
This week we will dive deeper into the Scientific Method. Students will review the steps of the scientific method and apply them to a laboratory activity. Our lessons will consists of:
a.) Discovery Education Interactive video
b.) Interactive Notebook pages consisting of foldables and observation practice
c.) Observation walks
d.) Penny Drop Laboratory to test the amount of water that a penny can hold
In the upcoming week, classes will branch into the different types of science that are outlined in the syllabus. I look forward to seeing you all on Curriculum night , this Tuesday at 6: 15 pm.

August 19-23, 2019
This week our focus was on " What Is A Scientists?"
We reviewed science tools, some of the major categories of scientists and how we use our five senses to study science. Our lesson consisted of worksheet completion, a penny, bead and button activity and scientists research as an extension activity.
Week One Fun: August 12-16, 2019
Greetings,
Welcome to Mrs. Campbell's Science Investigations. We truly enjoyed our first week of science class! Students took part in a variety of " Getting To Know You" activities. We discussed class expectations and topics that each class will focus on this school year.
My blog will give updates of what we are studying in class. Homework will be listed in the agenda, and will be initialed daily to verify that assignments are written correctly. Laboratory activities will be completed to support all unit topics and I am always open to have guest speakers come in and talk with the students.
