Week of December 7th - 11th

Hello all! I hope everyone's week is going well so far! This week in science we are discussing why we have seasons.

First, we will discuss the tilt of the earth and how its revolution around the sun is responsible for the seasons. We will make a model of this using paper plates and labels.

Then we will do a mystery science activity in which we will explore how day, night, and shadows change during seasons and use these changes to predict the season.

Have a fabulous rest of your week!

November 30th - December 4th

Hello all! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and I am sure everyone is now looking forward to the Christmas holiday! This week in science we are starting our space unit. We are starting with the Earth's orbit and tilt and why we have seasons.

First this week we are doing a mystery science activity about how fast the Earth's orbit is and how its orbit effects day and night. This is a fun introductory activity.

Next, we will talk more about our important vocab words and how they related to our activities. We will do several interactive activities with our vocab words as well.

I hope you have a fabulous rest of your week!

November 16th - 20th

Hello all! Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a wonderful week and are gearing up for a great Thanksgiving! This week in science, we are finishing up our study of the water cycle.

First we will finish our water cycle in a bowl experiment and look at how each part of the set up represents the water cycle. Then we will play a Kahoot review game!

Next, students will practice labeling the water cycle on their own with a word bank. After that, we will watch the water cycle episode of The Magic School Bus as a pre-break treat.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

November 9th - 13th

Hello all! I hope everyone had wonderful conferences this week! If I was not in your conference, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about how your child is doing in science.

This (short) week in science, we continued our study of the water cycle.

First we completed a worksheet in which the students drew a picture for each main step of the water cycle. After that, we labeled the water cycle together as a group on the board.

Finally, we set up our water cycle in a bowl demonstration. Students will get to see what happens with our experiment next week.

Have a great weekend! Only one more week until Thanksgiving break!

November 2nd - 6th

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and did alright through the storms. This week in science we are continuing our study of the water cycle.

First, we will finish discussing our interactive water cycle slides. This helps students get a feel for the important vocabulary terms in this unit.

After that, we will complete a water cycle foldable and illustration sheet that we missed last week. If time permits, we will also play a water cycle dice game.

Have a good rest of your week, and if you need anything, please feel free to reach out!

October 26th - 30th

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a good week so far. This week in science we are finishing our weather unit and moving into a mini unit about the water cycle.

First we are playing some weather bingo as a review. It reviews some of the major weather vocabulary we have been discussing.

Then we will discuss what everyone knows or thinks they've heard about in regards to the water cycle. After that, we will go through some interactive slides and watch a video about the water cycle. We will then complete a foldable and illustrate the water cycle.

That's all for this week. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!

October 19th - 23rd

Hello everyone! I had a wonderful wedding and honeymoon, but I am so glad to be back with my students this week. My new name is Mrs. Cone, and I know that will take time for everyone to get used to, myself included! This week in 4th grade, we are finishing our unit on weather.

First, we are doing a cloud in a jar experiment. I will do this experiment as a demo, but it is one students love, and it is easy to do at home. If your student would like to try it a home, follow the directions on this website:

After we do our cloud in a jar experiment, we will finish up making our weather instrument flipbook. If time permits, we will also play some weather review games.

Note: I will be out on Thursday afternoon, but Mrs. Campbell will be covering class.

Have a great week, and please let me know if you have any questions!

October 5th - 9th

Hello all! Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful fall break, and had time to relax! This week in science we are going more in depth with our study of clouds.

First we are finishing the mystery science activity that we started before the break. It is about using clouds to predict weather.

Next we are creating a cloud poster. We will use cotton balls to create several different types of clouds. The clouds will be labeled by name and description.

*Note: Next week I will be out on my honeymoon! Mrs. Campbell, the other science teacher, will be covering for me. However, if you need anything please still feel free to reach out to me!

September 21st - 25th

Happy Friday! It's been a wonderful week, and I'm sure everyone is ready for a nice break! This week in science, we have continued our focus on weather, specifically on clouds and using them to predict storms.

Throughout this week we have completed a Mystery Science activity. Students created a storm watcher guide and explored how clouds can tell us what the weather will be like.

We also used our storm watcher guide to predict the weather in a set of pictures and decided if it was a good idea to do a certain activity based on the weather. ]

Please let me know if you have any questions!
Have a wonderful fall break!

September 14th - 18th

Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday! This week we in science we are continuing our study with weather!

First we are gathering more data about the weather so we can gather more information about patterns and predictions. We will continue to do this throughout our weather unit.

We are also going to start discussing types of clouds and complete a foldable and a storm watcher activity related to the clouds.

I hope you have a fabulous week and please feel free to reach out with any questions.

September 8th - 11th

Hello all! I hope everyone had a great three day weekend! This week in science is short, but we still have some exciting activities planned.

The focus for this week is gathering more weather data by going outside and using thermometers and observations. Everyone is doing great so far with this activity. We will also recap some of our weather vocab and play a vocab game.

Also this week, we will start discussing cloud types if time permits and create a foldable about the most common types of clouds.

I hope everyone has a great rest of their week!

August 31st - September 4th

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a great Monday! This week in science we are continuing with our weather unit.

For the first part of the week we are discussing our weather vocab terms that we started last week. We are doing a matching activity with the words before going on to some more interactive activities.

For the second part of the week, we will talk about how to use thermometers and students will get to use them for themselves. Weather permitting, we will go outside and record some weather data in weather charts.

Have a great rest if your week!

August 24th - 28th

Hi everyone! Happy Tuesday! We have a few things going on in science this week.

First, we will finish setting up our interactive notebooks (INBs). We will use these throughout the year and put much of our completed work in them. We started with a science about me author's page. We are also discussing how we use science in our everyday lives.

Also this week, we will begin our first big unit: weather! We will begin by going over important vocabulary terms by doing vocabulary matching and foldables. If time and weather permits, we may go outside to begin observing the weather for ourselves.

Have a great week, and please let me know if you have any questions!

August 17th - 21st

Happy first week of school!! I hope everyone has had a great first few days of school! This week in science we are starting out with a few introductions. We are doing ice breaker activities, introducing the topics we will cover in class, and getting our science notebooks ready. I hope you have a great rest of your week!
