Liz Powell-Head of School
Liz Powell currently serves as Head of School at GRACEPOINT School. Her journey at GRACEPOINT began as Interim Head of School, followed by Assistant Head of School, before stepping into her current role - giving her deep, firsthand knowledge of the school she has known since its very beginning. Ms. Powell has been heartened to witness GRACEPOINT's growth and trajectory over the years, and she remains devoted to its continued flourishing.
Prior to joining GRACEPOINT, Ms. Powell spent 15 years in independent education at St. Stephen's Episcopal School and Trinity Episcopal School, both in Austin, Texas. During that time, she served in a wide range of roles, including Dean of Students, Dean of a Residential Program, School Chaplain and Counselor, and Assistant Head of School - experience that has shaped her holistic approach to student growth, community, and care.
In addition to her work in independent schools, Ms. Powell has served in professional ministry as a hospital chaplain, further deepening her commitment to caring for the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
Ms. Powell is a graduate of Davidson College and earned her Master's degree in Counseling from the Seminary of the Southwest.
She is passionate about drawing out the gifts of each student and equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to soar academically. Ms. Powell is equally passionate about supporting excellence in the classroom and championing the teachers who make that excellence possible.
Outside of school, Ms. Powell is the proud mother of three children - Walker, Ella, and Myers. She enjoys poetry, visiting National Parks, and playing games with family and friends, especially Rummikub and Dutch Blitz.
