This week ...
-ar says /er/ as in dollar
-vowel rr words such as carry, ferret, parrot, carrot
-Word sums with the suffix ion. (vacate + ion = vacation)

2-11-19

Last week, we covered...
-gue /g/ (French) as in fatigue, tongue, monologue
-Accenting rules in words such as admit, travel (Students must identify where the accent is to determine whether or not to double the final consonant before adding a suffix.
This week we will cover the 2-1-1 doubling rule.  In words that end with one consonant preceded by one vowel, double the final consonant if the accent is on the last syllable.  (examples: submit + ed = submitted; travel + ing = traveling)

We will continue to spend part of our class time learning morphemes (meanings of prefixes, roots, suffixes-of words).

-que /k/ as in plaque 
-ate as a suffix in words such as vacate, indicate
This week, we will spend a few more days on -ate as a suffix and then move onto gue /g/ as in monologue before learning about accenting rules.

 This week..
-Continue with ous as in famous.  Words that end in ous are adjectives.These words are challenging but the students are persevering!
-Introduce us as in fungus. These words are nouns.  
-We will then cover ei (long a) as in veil.

READING Middle School
This week, we will continue reviewing the consonant-le syllable, stle, soft c, and soft g.  We will then cover ui as in suit, y (long I) as in hydrant.  The week of Dec. 12, we will include the sound, ei as in vein.

READING 1
This week, we will continue reviewing the y changing spelling rule, tion, and -dge /j/. We will then cover a new sound: ew as in few (long u).  
 
After Thanksgiving break, we will cover ea as in bread, and continue with review lessons.
