During this school year, students will be working to master Georgia's Learning Standards for The Number System, Ratios and Proportional Relationships, Expressions and Equations, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Our focus will be on four critical areas: (1) operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (2) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations. Week of 8/27

Last week students enjoyed discovering how subtracting a negative is the same as adding a positive with the help of PBS Kids Math Club videos. We also talked about how Jesus' death on the cross to take away our sins is a perfect example! :)

This week, we will continue our journey in the Number System with special attention to multiplying and dividing Integers, then enter the world of Fractions

HEADS UP: We have a Test on Wednesday, 8/29, on Integers.

7th Grade Math Syllabus

If you did not receive your copy of the math syllabus at Parent Night last week, it is now available here for you to download, review, sign and return to school with your student (or return via email).

Mathematicians, Mathematicians...

To the parents of Avery, Ayla, Belle, Laney, and Josh -- Welcome to our Math blog!

I am thrilled to have your children aboard for 7th Grade Math this year! We started our journey off by learning what it means for us to be Mathematicians, and reviewing our skills from last year so we were prepared to take on our first official unit of The Number System: Integers.

This year, we are incorporating a new layer to your child’s math program through a methodology called Woodin Math developed by Chris Woodin at Landmark School. The whole-to-part philosophy teaches the children to commit math skills to memory rather than just remembering the steps. The beginning stages are at the basic level, but it is helping them learn the “code” which will help them in more difficult stages. If you have any questions about this addition, please contact Amy Benton.
