March Madness!

Greetings parents/guardians,

It has been a whirlwind of events over the last week. We are finally completing our unit on Weathering, Erosion and Deposition. One group of students completing their water erosion models and did an excellent job working together and explaining concepts that were covered. The other group will be able to complete their projects when we return.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will upload all assignments that need to be completed on Google Classroom. All students have joined my science classroom. They will be able to view videos, slide presentations and worksheets. I will not be including lab activities due to the variety of resources in individual homes. Lessons will be uploaded for students to begin next Tuesday.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.
God is in total control!!

Warm regards,
Kimberly Campbell

February Rocks!

Greetings Parents/Guardians,

This month, we will continue to focus on our Rock unit. We used crayons and play doh to demonstrate the rock cycle.  Our current focus is on Igneous Rocks. Next week, we will explore Sedimentary and Metamorphic rocks through the use of some sweet treats.

To support the use of technology, students created Google slides for each specific lesson and presented them to the class. Please ask your child about these slide presentations. They did an amazing job on Lessons 1-2. We are looking forward to Lessons 3-4 presentations.

Our rock assessment will be on February 20-21, 2020, when we return from our mini winter break.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns,

New Year, New Unit - January 2020

Greetings,

I hope that you all had a break full of love, laughter and  quality time with family. Thank you so much for the special gifts that were given before the break.

In sixth grade science, we have begun our unit on the rock cycle. Students are going to become familiar with the three types of rocks: Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic. We completed a heat lab using crayons to model the cycle and students are completing google vocabulary slides as we move through each lesson.

Blessings,

Week of December 2-6, 2019: Mineral Madness

Greetings,

The month of November flew by and December is here. Over the next three weeks, 6th grade will be exploring the characteristics of minerals and the three classes of rocks. All students have been signed into my Google Classroom as well. I will upload helpful videos, websites and homework.

Also, students receive all tests and quizzes back for signatures. Please be sure to sign and return in order for me to add them to their student portfolios. This is also a homework grade. Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

Happy Holidays,

Mrs. Campbell

Weeks of October 21- November 1, 2019: Can you dig it?

Greetings,

Last week, we began our unit on fossils. This week, we will continue to explore how fossils show evidence of changes from the past. Students created their own fossil molds and casts. We will introduce and gain knowledge on the Theory of Plate Tectonics and explore how land has changed after Pangea.

Blessings,

Week of October 14, 2019: Can you dig it?

Greetings,

Our science unit for this week will be the exploration of fossils.  Students will explore fossil boxes, complete a mystery footprint activity and create their own fossil mold/cast with plaster of Paris.

September 30-October 11, 2019: Science Layers

Last week , students examined the layers of the Earth through a laboratory investigation. We explored the density of corn syrup ( inner core) , glycerin ( outer core), water ( mantle ) , and vegetable oil (crust).  We completed guided notes and a teacher led graphic organizer to reinforce material.

ASSESSMENT- COMING SOON !!!!

STUDENTS WILL HAVE THEIR FIRST SCIENCE ASSESSMENT NEXT MONDAY .
Study materials are as follows:
Lesson 1 and 2 vocabulary foldables in INB
Earths Layers foldable

Next Unit of Study: Fossils

September 9-20, 2019: Two more weeks of explorations

Greetings,

During these two weeks before Fall Break, we will conclude our unit on the Scientific Method. We will focus on testable questions, writing a hypothesis, different types of variables ( independent, dependent, and controlled). Students will build ramps to test the question:"If the slope of a ramp increases , how does it effect the distance that a marble travels?"

We will explore the surfaces of the earth as our next unit!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Campbell

September 2-6 , 2019: Observations Everywhere!

Greetings,

This week our focus was on different types of observations: Quantitative and Qualitative Observations. Students were able to view a series of pictures and list both types of observations. We also compared and observation to an inference. We completed an activity titled " Mystery Footprints" in order to put our inference skills to the test.

Next week students will begin differentiated lessons based on their grade level.

IMPORTANT: Students have been studying for their first vocabulary quiz. They were given a week to study. In the future, an announcement will also be posted on my blog. If your child earned less than a 70%, they are able to complete extra credit to bring their grades up to a 70%.

Please email me with any questions or concerns.

August 26-30, 2019

This week we will dive deeper into the Scientific Method. Students will review the steps of the scientific method and apply them to a laboratory activity. Our lessons will consists of:

a.) Discovery Education Interactive video
b.) Interactive Notebook pages consisting of foldables and observation practice
c.) Observation walks
d.) Penny Drop Laboratory to test the amount of water that a penny can hold

In the upcoming week, classes will branch into the different types of science that are outlined in the syllabus. I look forward to seeing you all on Curriculum night , this Tuesday at 6: 15 pm.

Blessings,

August 19-23, 2019

This week our focus was on " What Is A Scientists?"

We reviewed science tools, some of the major categories of scientists and how we use our five senses to study science. Our lesson consisted of worksheet completion, a penny, bead and button activity and scientists research as an extension activity.

Week One Fun: August 12-16, 2019

Greetings,

Welcome to Mrs. Campbell's Science Investigations. We truly enjoyed our first week of science class! Students took part in a variety of " Getting To Know You" activities. We discussed class expectations and topics that each class will focus on this school year.

My blog will give updates of what we are studying in class. Homework will be listed in the agenda, and will be initialed daily to verify that assignments are written correctly. Laboratory activities will be completed to support all unit topics and I am always open to have guest speakers come in and talk with the students.

I am looking forward to a successful year filled with interactive activities that will engage the minds of our Jr. Scientists. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to support our students on their path to academic success.

Blessings,

Mrs. Campbell
