Jack-O-Lanterns for Sale: Day 1 (opinion/persuasive writing): Today we painted our pumpkins and brainstormed descriptive words that may persuade others to buy them! Tomorrow, we will turn our brainstorm into a sloppy copy before writing our two sentence final draft.

Picture Day

Happy Monday,

Tomorrow is picture day! Please wear navy blue polos. Our picture time is first thing in the morning.

Thanks,

Ms. Barber

Finished up our unit on verbs today in writing with an introduction to new super hero friends "Vicky and Victor Verb." Students drew pictures of four action words before assembling their craft.

Updates

  • Sadly, because of time, we are going to move on from our play. We will do something around Christmas time instead. It has been difficult to find a morning for us to do it as things have been very busy around the school.
  • Monday and Tuesday, October 26 and 27, we will be beginning a week long unit on Fairy Tales. The purpose of this unit is to complete our narrative writing standard for this year. We will be heavily writing focused during this week. On Monday and Tuesday, we will be reading many fairy tales and brainstorming ideas for writing our own together. Because there will be lots of stories read these days, if your student wishes to bring in a pair of bedroom slippers to wear, they may do so.
  • Book character day is Friday, October 30. It is a 1:00 dismissal. To celebrate the upcoming holiday, we will be having a classroom "Fear Factor" competition. Students will complete various Halloween themed STEAM challenges. STEAM activities help students think critically and build real-life skills. It will be a very exciting and fun day filled with out-of-the-box thinking.
  • School pictures are coming up on October 20. Please send your student to school in their Navy Blue polo.
  • Order Friday Fun Lunch by Wednesday at noon. Next week, is Zaxby's.
  • Homework is all online next week. Log in cards will be coming home on Monday. One assignment is on Freckle and two are on Seesaw (an odd and even numbers activity and a 2D shapes activity). All assignments are due Friday. Blue folder and red words are practiced every night.
  • Please continue to send your student in to school with a water bottle, a GRACEPOINT sweatshirt or jacket, two snacks, and a lunch. If they bring in money for Brighton Academy, we will place it in their house basket.
  • Thank you all for sending in calendar money. We are using it in the mornings.
  • First grade now has OT every Thursday morning.
  • The first two weeks in November, we will be learning about elections and voting. We will be holding a mock election based on the book Duck for President. The candidates for president will be Farmer Brown and the Duck.
  • November 13 is our GRACEPOINT drive in movie night. It will be a fun filled night with food, entertainment, and fellowship. Hope to see you there!
  • Please fill out the conference form that was sent via email last night ASAP. The first two first graders whose we receive back will be rewarded with 100 Dojo points (enough for a trip to the treasure box and to help us meet our goal as a class for a movie one afternoon!)

Parents,

As we slowly shift to our homework being online, feel free to use the QR codes on our virtual classroom to make accessing Frekle and SeeSaw easier! I will also include links to videos and fun activities each month here.

Thanks,
Ms. Barber

Play Update

Parents,

Today we had a couple of classmates missing. We will perform our play at a later date.

Thanks,

Ms. Barber

Today, we had to use our measurement skills in order to solve the mystery of who broke into our classroom and stole our halloween candy! It was the black cat!

Welcome Back!

Hello First Grade Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful fall break! I was so excited to see everyone this morning. :)

This week, we will begin learning about verbs, Christopher Columbus, and measuring in inches and feet. Please bring a water bottle, two snacks, a lunch, sweatshirt, and blue and grey folders to school each day. We will be going outside in the mornings for pledge and prayer this week!

Today, we had a mystery reader: fourth grade teacher Holly Bradford. We are so thankful she came to visit our class.

Remember, homework is due Friday! You can complete the three assignments in any order you wish. Do red words and read from the blue folder each night.

Please send in a bag of change for our morning meetings sometime this week.

Our class goal for Class Dojo is 100 points collectively. We currently have 80 points. 20 more and we will receive a full class reward!

Thank you,

Ms. Barber
