Happy Monday!
The next two weeks will be busy, busy for first grade.
Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your conversation hearts. If you have not yet, no worries! Please just do so by Friday. These will be used in math class next week. By having everyone bring in their own bag, we ensure we can still have Valentine fun while remaining healthy and safe.
Please check your child's Grey folder for important information on Valentine's Day and the 100th Day. The same information is also noted below.
Homework is due on Friday. It is all on Seesaw this week. As always, read in the blue folder and practice reading and spelling your red words each night. This is so, so, so important to see progress in your child's reading skills.
Friday fun lunch this week is Jason's Deli. Please order by Wednesday at 12.
Please keep making sure to send snack, lunch, sweatshirt, water bottle, blue and grey folders, and a puffy jacket. Students are going outside for morning SPARK each day. If it is below 35, I am having us stay inside for indoor recess.
Tomorrow is Groundhog Day! We will be partaking in some fun learning for this special day. We will take a survey to determine if GP thinks that the groundhog will or will not see his shadow, we will write about our prediction, we will read nonfiction books about groundhogs and answer questions, make groundhog headbands, and read stories based on the day.
The rest of this week we will use the super bowl to practice math skills and to do writing activities!
Thank you and let me know if there are any questions.

Valentines Exchange information:
Parents,
On Friday, February 12, we will have our class Valentine’s exchange. If your child would like to participate in this event, please ensure they have a Valentine for everyone in our class. They will need a total of five Valentine’s Please, assemble and address Valentine’s prior to bringing them to school on Friday. If you choose to include an edible treat with your Valentine’s, remember that, due to COVID safety guidelines, they must all be individually wrapped. Your child does not need a Valentine’s box, mailbox, or bag. We will be creating these together in class as a part of a math lesson. Please let me know if you have any questions!
100th Day information:
Parents,
Wow! 100 days of first grade, that is hard to believe! It is going by so fast. Our 100th day is Wednesday, February 10. Today, I will send your child home with an empty number 100 on Monday the 8. Please fill it in with 100 objects and return it to school by Friday, February 12. In the past, I have seen students fill their 100 with 100 googly eyes, 100 star stickers, 100 pennies, 100 pieces of elbow pasta, and 100 foam shapes. Have fun and be creative with these. We will hang them in the hall outside of our classroom.
We will celebrate the 100th day of school by completing the following activities:
- Fruit Loop necklaces: students will have their own mini box of fruit loops. They will count out 100 and string them on to string as a necklace. Students will be given separate fruit loops to enjoy as a snack, as I do not want them eating their necklaces. J
- “If I were 100 years old” writing assignment and craft
- Reading 100 Day books
- Hersey Kisses hunt: Students will be given the task of finding the 100 Hersey Kisses hidden in our classroom. One at a time, they will find one kiss, flip it over to see the number 1-100 written on the bottom of the wrapper, and then match it to the correct number on a 100 chart.
- 100 Day centers: 100 piece puzzle, coloring sheet, “If I had $100,” 100 exercises, roll a 100
- Math will be a very long and exciting calendar time, followed by creating a “100” day monster.
We will also spend a lot of time on Thursday, February 11, working with the number 101. We will do activities on this day based on 101 Dalmatians. Let me know if you have any questions.
