Miss Barber's First Grade Class

Posts

Welcome Back!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful winter break! Here is an overview of this week in first grade:

  • Homework: 3 assignments on Seesaw this week. All due on Friday! There is a comparing numbers activity, a George Washington Carver assignment, and a healthy teeth activity in honor of dental health month. Please practice reading and spelling red words and read from the blue folder each night!
  • Math: Today we reviewed old skills by playing Jeopardy. Tomorrow, we will begin a unit on comparing numbers. In calendar this week, we will begin learning "The Doubles Rap" song and will introduce math morphology. Today we started with "uni" means one, and "tri" means three. They have all learned "tw" means tw in their OG reading classes.
  • Language Arts: Today we worked on kernel sentences from the Landmark School curriculum. These are fantastic for our Dyslexic students. The rest of the week, we will be completing writing activities focused on Dental Health.
  • Social Studies: We will complete our study of Civil Rights by learning about George Washington Carver.
Upcoming Events:
  • "Read Across America Week" is next week. We will celebrate by having an author study of Dr. Suess. We will read many books and do lots of writing based on his books. Our centers will also be focused on his work.
  • Parent Conferences are March 8 and 9. They will be on Zoom. More information to follow.
  • Noon dismissal on Friday, March 5.
  • St. Patrick's Day activities will also be coming up in March!
Reminders and Updates:
  • Friday lunch this week is Zaxby's. Please order by Wednesday at 12:00pm.
  •   Please send a water bottle and snack each day in addition to lunch.
  • We do go outside everyday unless it is rainy. Please have a jacket.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Have a great week,

Ms. B

Hello and Happy Monday!

This is a big week for us. Please pay close attention to the following information.

  • Click the link for pictures of today's conversation heart fun in math and STEAM!
  • Friday is a 12:00 dismissal! No Friday fun lunch this week!
  • No Seesaw homework this week. Instead, please complete the 100th Day of School Project. Students need to fill there blank 100 sheet with 100 small items. This could be stickers, mini marshmallows, googly eyes, buttons, etc. Have fun and be creative. Due Friday! Continue to read in the blue folder and practice red words each night.
  • Tomorrow, we will make our Valentine's Day bags for our Valentine exchange on Friday! Please bring any class Valentine's in on Friday. Remember, your child must have a Valentine for every classmate if they wish to bring anything in. This is optional but fun. Anything editable needs to be individually wrapped. Please, do not send these in before Friday. :) We will also be celebrating Miss Allen's birthday (it is on Valentine's Day, we will make cards in class tomorrow) and playing Valentine Bingo during this time.
