Welcome Back Updates

Welcome back! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing spring break. It was so good to see everyone back this morning, I missed my first grade friends last week. Only 33 more days of first grade!

Homework this Week:
  • Read in the blue folder every night
  • Practice reading and spelling red words
  • Treasure map project: Instructions are on Seesaw. Your child will create their own treasure map on paper (don't complete it on Seesaw-this is just the instructions). It is due on Friday. I am only assigning this one assignment this week so they can take their time and do their best work.
Learning Focuses for the Week:
  • Math: Time. We will be focused on telling time to the hour and half hour, parts of a clock, and other elements of time for the next two weeks.
  • Writing: Review of parts of speech. Next week we will begin an intensive poetry unit. Students will read poems and write poems. This will last several weeks (we will have to take breaks for Earth Day writing and Mother's Day writing). At the end of the unit, I will be having your child's poems bound into a nice book as a keepsake. You will not see any of their poems coming home in their folders for this reason.
  • Social Studies: Map skills! This is our final social studies unit of the year and will last about two weeks. After this, social studies will be weekly readers each day to review what we learned this year.
Upcoming Events:
  • Giddy up GRACEPOINT/Field Day: May 14
  • Last day of school: May 26
  • Beverly Cleary Author Study: Beginning next week
  • ABC Countdown to Summer: Will come home next Monday! To countdown our final 26 days of school, we will be using the ABC's. Each day, will be themed with a letter and we will do a short fun activity or have a treat each day to match the letter. You will receive a calendar on Monday that has what each day's theme will be.
  • Earth Day Writing: April 22
  • Mother's Day Writing: We will be making a special book for our moms the week before Mother's Day as a gift/way to review old writing skills.
  • May the Fourth: We will be having a Star Wars themed day on May 4. We will write about what it would be like to live in space and doing space themed math centers.
Reminders:
  • Fun lunch this week is Jason's Deli. Order by Wednesday at 12:00pm
  • Late Start on Wednesday
  • Friday is HOUSE Day, we will be having a pep rally for Giddy Up GRACEPOINT during this time
  • Students need a snack, water bottle, lunch, and two folders at school each day
  • Please make sure your child's name is in their sweatshirts/jackets. It is warming up outside (YAY!!) BUT, our room is very cold. I still suggest wearing a sweatshirt for this reason.
  • Mystery readers via ZOOM on Monday's at 2:40. If you haven't signed up for a slot and would like to, email me and I will accommodate your schedule. :)
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MILES (Wednesday)
Have an awesome week and let me know if you have any questions or comments.
