Parents-
This week we have learned the "Hairy Money" strategy to counting coins. Tonight, have your child show you how to count coins in this way.
Any student who can tell me how much money is shown here tomorrow morning will receive a special desk pet treat!

Good Morning First Grade and Happy Monday,
We are so close to spring break! Hang in there everyone!
This week in First Grade:
- Math: Coins! We are doing several activities to master counting coins: interactive notebook pages, Bingo games, and coin war! On Thursday, we will be reviewing every skill we have learned so far this year through a massive Easter egg hunt (it is suppose to be beautiful and sunny-but chilly. Please send a jacket to school on Thursday so we can be outside for this fun time).
- Writing: Easter writing. We will be doing several fun Easter themed writing assignments including: Hide the Eggs (a narrative writing assignment about what would happen if you had the world's largest Easter egg hunt), Easter eggs in disguise (students will creatively design an Easter egg and write a narrative story about it), How-to catch the Easter Bunny (a how-to writing assignment-we will also listen to the book by the same tile written by Adam Wallace), and Who should replace the Easter Bunny (opinion writing).
- Social Studies: Needs and Wants. We will continue to study economics by studying needs and wants. We will play a "Do you need it or do you want it?" movement game, make charts, and complete "I want and I need" writing activities.
- Other: Peeps science experiment (starting on Wednesday we will be completing a fun two-day science experiment involving Peeps. We will place Peeps into three different liquids and observe what happens to them over a two day period of time. We will practice predicting and observing during this time), Mystery reader on Zoom, speech groups, OT, Easter story time (The 1:00 Miracle by Alison Mitchell, The Easter Egg by Jan Brett, There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Chick by Lucille Colandro, and Will you be my Friend by Sam McBratney), PE, art, music, and science classes
Homework:
- 3 Seesaw assignments due Friday (can be completed any day of the week): Money, Money game, Money labeling coins activity, and Movie review video by Jack Hartman
- Read in blue folder every night
- Practice reading and spelling red words every night
- If you have not yet completed your musical instrument project for Holly Guice, please do so and bring it in ASAP. She is creating a beautiful display of them in Hipp Hall for everyone to enjoy viewing. This assignment is a GRACEPOINT tradition.
Reminders/Updates:
- No school on Friday! Good Friday.
- Next week is Spring Break, no school! Enjoy your week off.
- Late start on Wednesday, school begins at 9:15am.
- This week is going to be colder, please wear a jacket to school. We do go outside as long as it is not raining
- Students need a lunch, snack, and water bottle everyday, as well as, their blue and grey folders.
Thank you and have a wonderful week. As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Enjoy your weekend! Only four more days until Spring Break!
Lemonade Stand Tomorrow!
First grade will hold a lemonade stand for the teachers of GP tomorrow to practice counting coins and to tie into our economics unit in social studies! Their advertisements turned out beautifully today!
