Last Two Days of Reading

Hello Everyone!

I cannot believe our last two days of reading are tomorrow and Tuesday!

Here is our game plan for Monday and Tuesday:

  • Monday: Reviewing all the suffixes we learned this year. Red word: come
  • Tuesday: Game day! We will play games such a "Happy Puppy/Sad Puppy," "Don't be Greedy," "Go Fish," and "KaBOOM!" to review all of the reading skills we learned this year in class! I am planning to bring our reading class a special treat of some kind on Tuesday as well (most likely Dunkin' Munchkins). If you are being tutored by a GP teacher this summer, I will pass reading materials onto that teacher on Tuesday. Otherwise, expect to see your student's reading materials coming home with them on Tuesday!
  • Wednesday: No reading class
Thank you all for an amazing year. Have a fun, relaxing, and safe summer break!

Much Love and God Bless,

Ms. B

Happy Monday!

Good Morning!

Only 12 more days of school-so hard to believe!

Today we reviewed Wild Old Words and Magic E one more time. Tomorrow we will begin VCCV words.

Our red word today was "only." Please practice reading and spelling it tonight.

In addition, please read "The Humpback Whale" tonight for homework.

Thank you and have a wonderful day,

Ms. B

Happy FriYAY:

Good Morning!

Here are some reading updates.

We will finish wild old words next week and be introduced to VCCV words.

The red words for next week will be: from and only.

As always, please read your child's story from their blue folder and practice a few red words every night. We will continue to have several new stories a week in the final weeks of school.

Thank you so much and have a great weekend and a Happy Mother's Day.

This Week In Reading

Hello Everyone,

This week we will finish Wild Old Words (I hope)! We will continue to review some frequently missed red words. Each night, they will have a new story this week.

On Wednesday, I will be out. They will review -dge with the sub.

Thank you and have a great week,

Ms. Barber

Happy Monday!

Good Morning and Happy Monday!

This week in reading we will continue to work on Wild Old Words.

We are reviewing red words this week (what, was, friend, and of) because we will not have reading on Thursday due to the field trip and will have a shadow student in our class tomorrow.

Please read "Was or Was Not" for homework two times and practice reading and spelling a few different red words.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Have a wonderful week,

Ms. B

Monday Updates

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend!

This week, we will begin learning about "Wild Old Words" in reading. Some examples of words that follow this pattern are "most," "kind," "bold," and  "mild."

Tonight for homework please read "Old Gold" and practice reading and spelling 3-4 red words. We will be working on the red word "there" until Wednesday.

As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you and have a great week,

Ms. Barber

Welcome Back Updates

Welcome Back from Spring Break!

I hope your break was restful and fun. Only 33 more days of school.

This week in reading:

We will finish up "magic e." Red words will be "two" and "to."

Homework tonight:

Read Pete and Mike two times since it is short. This is important, there will be a new story every night this week.

Practice reading and spelling three-four red words (including two).

Use the words "two" and "too" in a sentence. They do not need to write it, just verbally tell you and it can be two separate sentences.

I am hoping we can move on from magic e next week, but of course it could be earlier or later.

Have a fantastic week and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Ms. B

I hope everyone had a fantastic week!

This week we worked on magic e and practiced the red word "too."

Today in dictation, I challenged our class to write the sentence: "The two cute mules are too cute!" Not only did they have to spell those magic e words correctly, they also had to correctly use the two types of "to." I could not trick them! They all did beautifully and got the words correct.

For homework: Practice spelling and reading red words (we talked today in class about how they are not expected to read and spell every red word every single night. Work on the word we did in class today, and then pick 2-3 more to focus on. Do it in a way that involves movement for the most benefit). Read the story in their blue folder.

Over spring break: Read a different story 2-3 over the week for review. Practice reading and spelling red words 2-3 days as well! This will hugely benefit your child upon return to school on Monday, April 12.

After spring break: It is hard to believe we will only have six weeks left when we get back to school! I am hopeful we can review/finish up learning about magic e when we return from the break and then move onto our next skill: -ost (as in most or host). The week we return, your child will not have a new red word, we will just review old words this week. However, they will have a new story every night that week.

I hope you all have a safe, fun, relaxing, and well deserved spring break. Enjoy the time off and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday, April 12.

As always, feel free to email me with any questions or comments,

Ms. B

Happy Monday-Only 4 More Days!

Happy Monday, I hope everyone had a great weekend.

This week we are continuing our study of magic e by adding even more vowels into the mix.

Today we read "Luke gets Bugs," please read it for homework tonight. This will be the only new story this week.

We worked on the red word "too," please practice it for homework tonight as well (reading and spelling). This will be the only new red word this week. As part of homework tonight, I ask that you have your child use it correctly in a sentence.

We played an Easter egg long or short vowel shorting game today.

Enjoy your week! Let me know if you have any questions.

Reading

Today we worked on magic e with a u as the vowel. We practiced the red word should. Please read "Two Cute Mules" something this weekend!

Writing Magic E words in "Pixie dust" yesterday! Of course they got to make a wish at the end of class!
